What to expect
Your first class, start to finish
Here's exactly how a class runs, what to bring, and what happens if the weather turns.
What happens during the free intro class?
A short warm-up and movement games, then coached practice on balance, safe landings, and simple vaults using low obstacles. The class ends with a challenge students can choose their own version of, plus a few minutes for questions.
Does my child need previous experience?
No. The intro class assumes no experience at all, and most students arrive having never tried parkour.
What should they wear?
Comfortable athletic clothing they can move freely in, and athletic shoes with flat, grippy soles. Skip sandals, boots, jeans, and anything with drawstrings or loose hoods.
What should they bring?
A full water bottle and, in wet or cool months, a light rain layer. Everything else is provided by the coach.
Where do we meet?
Classes meet at the concrete obstacle structure next to the playground, near the tennis courts at Irving Park in Northeast Portland (777 NE Fremont St). Your confirmation email includes the exact meeting point, and Coach Joey will be easy to spot jumping around.
How early should we arrive?
Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early so there's time to park, find the group, and check in before the warm-up starts.
Can parents watch?
Yes — and we ask that a parent or guardian stays at the park during class. You're welcome to watch from nearby; we just ask that coaching stays with the coach.
What happens if it rains?
Classes are outdoors. If conditions require a schedule change, registered families will be notified by email as soon as the decision is made.
How are classes adjusted for different ability levels?
Every drill has an easier and a harder version, and the coach sets obstacle heights and distances to match the group. Students move up when the coach sees the movement is solid — not because everyone else did.
What happens after the free intro?
The free intro is a consistent, beginner-friendly experience. Students may attend it more than once, but the content generally stays the same. The paid Sunday beginner class at 1:00 PM uses a changing curriculum and is the best option for continued development.
